We may review content when you report abuse, when required by law, or to protect the safety of our users — see our Safety Policy.
4. Data Storage and Security
Mail for Pi currently uses application-managed server infrastructure and PostgreSQL-backed storage. Email content is not currently stored across Pi Network nodes or other decentralized node networks.
- Current Storage: Message and account data are stored in databases and storage systems operated by Mail for Pi (PostgreSQL and related application storage).
- Pi Network Role Today: Pi Network is used for identity authentication, ecosystem integration, and supported payment functionality—not as the current email storage layer.
- Future Roadmap: Decentralized or node-assisted storage is a planned research and roadmap objective. It is not implemented, active, or guaranteed today. If introduced, we will update this Privacy Policy and related notices before any change in storage model.
- Message Formatting: Optional legacy Base64 formatting is available for compatibility. It is not encryption and provides no confidentiality. Mail for Pi does not currently provide end-to-end encryption.
- Security Controls: We use secure authentication, authorization, access controls, and encrypted network transport where configured
- No Email Scanning: Your emails are never scanned for advertising or marketing purposes
- User-Controlled Data: You own and control your email data
While we implement strong security measures, no system is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to protecting your data to the best of our ability.
5. Third-Party Services and Pi Network Integration
Mail for Pi is built on the Pi Network ecosystem and integrates with several Pi Network services:
- Pi Network Authentication: We use Pi Network's authentication system. When you authenticate, you consent to sharing your Pi Network username, public key, and wallet address with us.
- Application Storage: Email content and mailbox data are stored by Mail for Pi on application-managed servers and PostgreSQL-backed storage—not on community-operated Pi Network nodes.
- Pi Wallet: For Pi token transactions (rewards, payments), we interact with your Pi Network wallet through the Pi SDK.
- Pi Blockchain: Supported payment transactions may be recorded on the Pi Blockchain for transparency and settlement. This does not mean email content is stored on-chain.
SocialChain and Pi Network Data Collection: When you use Mail for Pi through the Pi Network platform, SocialChain (the company behind Pi Network) collects, uses, shares, and stores personal information from Pi Network applications, including Mail for Pi. This data collection is governed by Pi Network's Privacy Policy. By using Mail for Pi, you consent to SocialChain's data practices as described in Pi Network's Privacy Policy. For more information, please review Pi Network's Privacy Policy at https://minepi.com/privacy.
Pi Network Privacy: Pi Network does not save any data unrelated to Pi that you decide to share with third-party apps. Your email content and personal information remain private to Mail for Pi.
